Blade Sharpening

Inspect the mowing blades before each use to be sure they are in good condition. Dull blades will give a poor cut and nicked or damaged blades will cause excessive vibration that could damage other mower components.

Replace any blade that is bent, nicked, excessively worn, or has other damage. Blades normally cost between ten and fifteen dollars.

When handling blades it is best to wear heavy gloves (always available at our store for only $2.99).

It is very important to sharpen blades following the original. The blades do not need to be sharpened to a knife edge but rather should leave 1/32 inch edge. Also be careful not to get the edge too hot. High temperature will cause the blade to lose its hardness.

Blade Balancing

When sharpening blades, remove the same amount of material from each blade end to maintain balance. Unbalanced blades will cause excessive vibration which could damage the mower. We always balance the blades we sharpen.
